Picture a grape vine with all of the little branches, twigs and leaves running in every direction. Some of the branches stick out straight while others are curved with curlicue after curlicue. But all of these branches are connected with the vine. Not one of them could possible live without it, the vine is their life source, it's how they get food, water, and all the nutrients they need to live and to produce those perfect little bushels of grapes. If for some reason one of these branches fell off of the vine, lost it's connection to it's life source, it would wither up and die.
All of the branches touch one another, none of the branches are alone. The branches on this vine crisscross and wrap around each other, some of them are so intertwined, it would be almost impossible to separate them. These branches also work together, when one branch has a heavy load and starts to sag, the branches around it are there to hold it up and take some of the weight off, so that the first branch is not wounded or broken. The vine and branches are healthy and strong because they are so connected and intertwined.
This picture is also a picture of us, the body of Christ. God is the vine, we are the branches; and through Him we have life and health. We are fully dependent on God, without Him we would wither and die. We should depend fully on Him for all of our needs, and we should be so intertwined with other believers that we can't help but have their lives touch ours and our lives effect theirs. We as the branches have the very important job of supporting each other and of bearing fruit.
So as I was coming up with a name for this blog, and felt the Holy Spirit nudging me toward the vine and branches scripture in John, I knew that I was looking at the new name of the blog. The Vine and Branches. My hope is that this blog will help us to keep a good connection with the Vine and create a network of branches, producing fruit, and supporting each other as we should.
